Nightscout Path

B-Sense Nightscout Path

Use this page if you already run Nightscout and want the clearest path to using B-Sense as a dedicated display.

This is the simplest current path for users who already have upstream data working.

Who This Path Is For

Use this path if:

  • you already have Nightscout working
  • you want to keep your current upstream data flow
  • you want B-Sense to act as the dedicated display layer

Do not start here if:

  • you are still unsure whether Nightscout or B-Sense Cloud is the better fit
  • your current upstream data path is not working yet

If you are still deciding, open:

The Practical Promise

The Nightscout path is the lowest-friction route for users who already have Nightscout working.

Short version:

  • keep your existing Nightscout path
  • flash B-Sense
  • connect Wi-Fi
  • enter the matching Nightscout host and upload-capable credential
  • confirm the first live reading

What You Need Before Starting

Have these ready first:

  • a compatible ESP32 2.8 inch touch ST7789 CYD board
  • the latest B-Sense firmware from the Web Flasher
  • working Wi-Fi
  • your Nightscout URL
  • your Nightscout upload credential:

API_SECRET – or a write-capable token

Do not begin by changing layouts, units, or extra settings.

Get the first live reading first.

Current Baseline For This Path

This is the current recommended baseline:

  • Android path with xDrip+ available
  • one data path only during first setup
  • existing Nightscout path already working before B-Sense is added

This page does not claim:

  • universal phone compatibility
  • Apple / iPhone support
  • universal CGM compatibility

For the current baseline, also check:

The Fastest Working Route

  1. Confirm Nightscout is already updating correctly before B-Sense is added.
  2. Open Web Flasher and install the latest firmware.
  3. Connect the device to Wi-Fi.
  4. Open the local device setup page.
  5. Enter:

– Nightscout host / URL – Nightscout upload-capable credential

  1. Wait for the first live reading.

Common Mistakes On This Path

Most first-run Nightscout-path failures come from:

  • wrong host / URL
  • wrong token / secret
  • using a read-only token where an upload-capable credential is needed
  • mixing Nightscout values with B-Sense Cloud values
  • trying to fix several settings at once

Practical rule:

  • choose one path
  • confirm one working reading
  • only then touch cosmetic or advanced settings

Host And Credential Rule

For this path, use:

  • your Nightscout URL
  • your Nightscout upload credential:

API_SECRET – or a write-capable token

Do not use:

  • a readable Nightscout token for upload
  • a B-Sense Cloud key with a Nightscout host
  • a Nightscout credential with a B-Sense Cloud host

If You See No Data

Check these first:

  1. Wi-Fi actually connected
  2. Nightscout URL is correct
  3. upload-capable credential is correct
  4. only one path is configured
  5. the upstream path is still updating before B-Sense is added

If the device worked once and later became stale, use:

Nightscout-First Rule

If you already run Nightscout, you can start with that path directly.

That means:

  • you can start with the Nightscout route you already use
  • you do not need to switch to B-Sense Cloud first

This is separate from the Cloud Quarterly plan offer.

Do not mix the two stories.
